Viasea Expands Network with Two New Services Linking Norway to Benelux and the Baltic Region

Viasea is strengthening Norway’s connection to key European trade corridors by launching two new shortsea services linking Oslo to Rotterdam and Riga. The expansion, driven by the introduction of the BALTEX service, increases sailing frequency, opens direct access to Baltic growth markets, and reinforces shortsea shipping as a critical enabler of resilient and competitive supply chains.

Viasea announces the introduction of two new maritime services, further strengthening Norway’s connectivity to key European logistics corridors. This expansion follows the recent launch of the BALTEX service by Viasea’s parent company, Ellerman City Liners, further enhancing shortsea capacity between Northern Europe, the UK, and the Baltic region.

    Strengthening Benelux–Norway Connectivity

The first new service introduces a weekly sailing between Rotterdam and Oslo, raising Viasea’s frequency from the Benelux region to three weekly sailings. This provides shippers and logistics providers with greater flexibility and improved supply chain reliability.

    Route map

Rotterdam remains a critical logistics hub for European cargo flows. The increased sailings are expected to support import and export volumes between Norway and continental Europe.

    New Baltic Opportunities

The second service introduces a weekly connection between Oslo and Riga, Latvia. The Oslo–Riga route is designed to support Norwegian exporters seeking improved market access to the Baltic States, a region experiencing steady economic growth and rising trade activity. The maritime corridor between Norway and Latvia, Viasea, aims to simplify logistics chains and offer an alternative to more complex, road-dependent transport routes.

    The BALTEX Service Network

The new services form part of the broader BALTEX rotation, which calls at:

    Riga – Gdynia – Teesport – Tilbury – Rotterdam – Oslo – Riga

The service strengthens intra-European connectivity and introduces several new routing opportunities, particularly between the UK and Norway.

    Improved UK–Norway Access

One of the key outcomes of the BALTEX introduction is enhanced connectivity between the United Kingdom and Norway. The service establishes a direct maritime link between Teesport and Oslo and increases capacity from the Southern UK via Tilbury.

These additions are expected to provide greater routing flexibility for UK-Norway cargo flows and support the growing demand for resilient, sustainable freight alternatives.
