Samskip has agreed to sell its UK and Ireland quay-to-quay and door-to-door freight business to CLdN, in a move that reshapes both companies’ network strategies. The transaction secures service continuity for customers while allowing Samskip to focus on long-distance multimodal growth and to strengthen CLdN’s short-sea presence between mainland Europe, the UK, and Ireland.
Samskip has agreed to sell its UK and Ireland quay-to-quay and door-to-door freight business to CLdN, subject to regulatory approval.
The transaction covers container services between Rotterdam and ports in the UK and Ireland, including Belfast, Hull, Tilbury, Dublin, and Cork — representing more than 1,000 annual port calls. It also includes the transfer of over 5,000 multimodal cargo units and related supplier agreements.
For Samskip, the divestment sharpens its focus on longer-distance multimodal trades across mainland Europe, the Nordics, the Baltics, and North Africa.
We at Samskip are very confident about this transaction. It will allow us to focus on the key strategic markets of the future, where we will continue to invest in our organization and further develop our longer-distance trades where we deliver the most value to our customers.
Ólafur Orri Ólafsson, CEO of Samskip
Strategically, the move signals clearer network prioritization, strengthening Samskip’s position as a long-distance multimodal operator with sustainability at its core.
Customers will benefit from increased sailing frequency and enhanced multimodal services.
Florent Maes, CEO of CLdN
The transaction further enhances CLdN’s short-sea container shipping offering for existing and new customers between mainland Europe, the UK, and Ireland. It is fully aligned with CLdN’s strategy of providing complementary roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) services for mixed cargo and lift-on/lift-off (LoLo) services for containers.
Both parties have agreed not to disclose financial details related to the transaction.
