Norske Skog Skogn recently extended its long-term partnership with DFDS by another four years. The agreement highlights the importance of collaboration and the willingness to invest in long-term partnerships to achieve sustainable logistical solutions.

DFDS partners with its major clients, reshaping their supply chain landscape by collaborating closely to expedite the adoption of technical and sustainable solutions. By redefining customers as partners, DFDS shifts its focus towards collective accomplishments. The renewal underscores a shared dedication to sustainable practices, exemplified by joint investments in vessel upgrades.

Since 1991, DFDS has been an integral part of our journey, and this extension signifies the strength and longevity of our collaboration. Our joint commitment to environmental sustainability makes this contract extension truly special

Joint project groups emphasize the importance of ongoing collaboration. Both companies aim to continuously enhance their environmental efforts, identifying and implementing further measures to reduce emissions in the future. Such initiatives underscore DFDS’s commitment to driving tangible environmental impact while fortifying its client relationships through shared sustainability goals.

Sustainability is a continuous journey – not a destination

The supply chain for Norske Skog Skogn is a tailor-made factory-to-storage solution. The vessels in place are built to fit Norske Skog Skogn’s operation. Annually, DFDS transports approximately 375000 tons of paper from the factory in Skognto to the continent.

We are excited about the journey ahead, both concerning cost-effective means of transportation and a lower scope 3 carbon footprint

Håvard Busklein, MD Norske Skog Skogn

With the new contract, joint investments in vessel upgrades, part of an optimization package, increase efficiency and sustainability.

    • New onboard IT systems for improved operations
    • Engine tuning
    • Paint/coating – to reduce friction through water.
    • New propellers

DFDS’s philosophy is that reducing emissions in the supply chain is a continuous search for areas to improve. An account team with members from Norske Skog and DFDS collaborates on identifying elements that will contribute to further reducing emissions in the supply chain & other strategic measures.

DFDS offers its customers access to an extensive and fully integrated road and sea solutions network. A clear ambition is to use shortsea on a large part of the multimodal supply chain whenever possible, combining this with their fleet of 95 electrical trucks. We have just ordered 100 more E-Trucks, bringing the total fleet to 227, addressing sustainability in all parts of the supply chain

The team meets at a strategic level four times per year and monthly at an operational level. The ambition is to identify further elements that will continuously reduce emissions and strengthen the focus on joint achievements.
