Color Hybrid named Ship of the year 2019

    Color Hybrid paves the way for a new era in the ro-pax segment with technical solutions that go a long way in the green shift, said the jury leader, editor Gustav-Erik Blaalid during the award ceremony of Ship of the Year at NOR-Shipping.

    Ship of the Year

    The prestigious Ship of the Year award will be presented in 2019 for the 21st time by the Ship Revolution. CEO, Trond Kleivdal in Color Line accepted the award on behalf of the company. – First and foremost, we want to thank you for the appointment of this year’s Ship. This is a prize we value highly and is proud and happy to receive, said Trond Kleivdal, who added that the construction of the world’s largest plug-in hybrid ship is in line with the company’s ambitions for further development of sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions for Norwegian shipping. More than 70% of the suppliers are from the maritime cluster in Norway.

    The main actors honored with the Ship of the Year award are actors who in each area represent some of the best maritime industry has to offer in Norway. Fosen Yard AS with its expertise in the design of ro-pax, Ulstein Verft AS, which for generations has built high-quality vessels, and Color Line, which has transported millions of passengers, cars, and cargo between our neighboring countries. Also, Sandefjord municipality is honored to set precise environmental requirements that create innovation in the maritime sector and reduce climate emissions.

    Necessary for the Norwegian maritime cluster

With its green and environmentally friendly solutions, Color Hybrid is a significant project for both us and the maritime cluster. We want to thank Color Line for a useful and constructive collaboration throughout the construction period, and we look forward to delivering the forward-looking vessel Color Hybrid to the company, Ulstein says. Color Hybrid uses new solutions to reduce noise and emissions. The Ship is a plug-in hybrid, where the batteries of five megawatt hours are charged via a power cable with environmentally friendly power from shore power plants on the quay in Sandefjord. The Ship will go in and out of the Sandefjordsfjord virtually silently and without emissions of harmful environmental gases, or nitrogen and sulfur compounds to the air in the area. Color Line is currently the only shipping company in the international passenger and freight traffic to and from Norway with ships in the Norwegian ship register and with Norwegian headquarters. The maiden voyage from Sandefjord to Strømstad is Friday 26 July.
